Children’s Day in India
Children’s day is dedicated to children to celebrate their lovely presence in the world. In India, Children’s day is celebrated on 14th of November every year. The celebration on this day is a mark of respect to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, whose birthday falls on this day.
Children’s Day is the special day to realize the importance of children. Children are loved by all. They win hearts with their angelic eyes and innocent smiles. They are future of country and are considered as the future of every parent. There is so much to learn from a Child and it is rightly said “Child is the father of man.”
Chacha Nehru’s Love for Children:
Children’s day celebrations are in recognition to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s lifelong fondness and work for children. At his times children loved him very much and called him “Chacha Nehru.” ‘Chacha’ means uncle or younger brother of father. Chacha Nehru had very attractive personality and had great affection, love and care towards children.
Many popular and famous photographs of Pandit Nehru features children with him. They show clearly the joy and love shared by Sri Nehru with the children. He always shared pleasantries with them and honour them more than adults. There is a story that goes that Sri Nehru started wearing a rose on his jacket after a small child pinned one on it.

Sri Nehru listened to children with commitment and great attitude. He believed firmly that by honouring children with love and care one can change the future of India and make it a dwelling of great souls. The national children’s centers are named ‘Jawaharlal Bal Bhavan’ to honour Sri Nehru.
Sri Nehru died in 1963. After that his birthday has been celebrated as Children’s Day in India.

Quizzes, elocutions, fancy dress competitions, songs, dramas and dances make the day very special in schools. Teachers give special attention to the children. Children are treated to movie and lunch by the school authorities. Children gets engage in fun and frolic this day.
