Navrathri 2009 – Dates and Alankarams

Navrathri is nine days celebrations of Mother Shakti. These are the most auspicious days in Hindu calendar. In these nine days the nine forms of Durga are worshipped as Navdurga.

According to the Hindu calender, Navratri starts from the first day of the Shukla Paksha (Waxing Phase of moon) in the Hindu month of Ashwin (September – October). Navratri 2009 begins on 19th September 2009 and ends on 28th September 2009.

On Navrathri the deity of Goddess Durga is worshipped with different names and decorations known as Alankarnams. Everyday of Navrathri marks a special poojas and archanas for the deity. Following are the details of the names, alankaram and vahana sevas observed during Navratri 2009.

19 September 2009 – Shailaputri Alankaram – Brungi Vahanam seva

20 September 2009 – Brahmacharini Alankaram – Mayura Vahanam seva

21 September 2009 – Chandraghanta Alankaram – Ravana vahana seva

22 September 2009 – Kushmanda Alankaram – Kailasa Vahana seva

23 September 2009 – Skandamata Alankaram – Sesha vahana seva

24 September 2009 – Katyayani Alankaram – Hamsa vahana seva

25 September 2009 – Kalaratri Alankaram – Gajavahana seva

26 September 2009 – Mahadurga Alankaram – Nandi vahana seva

27 September 2009 – Siddidayini Alankaram – Ashwa vahana seva

28 September 2009 – Bhramaramba devi Alankaram – Nandi vahanam seva
