When is Hanuman Jayanti 2009? – 2009 Hanuman Jayanti is on 9th of April i.e Thursday.

In India, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth day of Lord Hanuman, the venerated monkey God of Hindus. Hanuman is regarded as the incarnation of Lord Shiva and is known for his phenomenal strength and fierce devotion to Lord Rama. The saying goes that he carried an entire hill single handedly to bring the Sanjivani booti (medicinal plant) so as to save Laxman, the brother of Rama!

Every year Hanuman Jayanti falls on the day of Chaitra Shukla Purnima. In 2009, Hanuman Jayanti will be held on 9th April. But according to some regional calendars, the festival will be celebrated on 8th April.

How is Hanuman Jayanti Celebrated?
2009 Hanuman Jayanti is no different. Generally, the preparation for celebration begins before the dawn of the day. The idols of Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama are bathed, smeared with sindoor (vermilion) and are offered special prayers.

Devotees of Hanuman (mostly wrestlers and body builders) observe fast on the day, visit temples, put tilak and offer bananas and sweets to the deity. ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ along with prayers dedicated to Lord Rama are recited. There is a saying that wherever the story of Lord Rama is told, Hanuman is present. The puja ends with the Aarti of Bajrangbali.

Wrestling shows form an integral part of Hanuman Jayanti celebration. Body builders and wrestlers assemble together in large fields and compete with each other to display their strength and valour. Prizes are distributed among the winners. Such shows depict the true power epitomized by Lord Hanuman. These shows are held in almost every villages and towns of India.
