Tips For Parents With Children Who Hate Schools
“Mom, my tummy is achingâ€. “I think I will be really sick if I go school today?â€â€” are these very common alibis you hear very frequently from your kid. Well, it is actually time to worry. This is because you have a child who tries to bunk school by giving you some excuses every other day.
Okay, do not freak out. Try to diagnose the problem first. What are the problems you face every time you want to send your child to school? Does he/she become angry? Does your child scream? Does your child come on the verge of crying? Is he/she terrified at the name of school?
What To Do In Such Situations?
In order to handle situations like this one needs to follow certain rules. Some tips are given below:
Patience: As a parent you need to be patient but that does not mean you will be lax. The situation requires a firm hand.
Anger: You should never be angry in any situation. Try to analyze the child’s problem. Why does she do all these to avoid school? Is the school responsible for this in any way?
What are the possible causes for not going to school?
The possible causes are — School phobia, Separation Anxiety (separation from the mother), Agora Phobia (phobia of crowded places), Bullying, Teasing, Embarrassment, Abuse, and Illness.
Suggested Solutions:
- Get him or her to the doctor.
- If the child is fine then indirectly force your child to go to school. If he stays at home make it a complete bore with no T.V., no snacks. If your child says she/he is sick confine her/him to bed and don’t let friends come over.
