Teachers’ Agitations In A.P. To Be Terminated By Law

On wednesday, the Andhra Pradesh High Court asked the 3 lakh teachers , who were protesting to with draw their srike. They have been warned if they don’t resume their work from thursday they have to face the music.

The bench, which consists of the Chief Justice, Dave and another Justice Subhash Reddy, after hearing the petition labeling the court to announce strike by a Teachers’ Association, Jacto to be illegal, opined teachers are not allowed to strike. The S C’s verdict which forbids lawyers to strike, is in the same way applicable to the teachers. They added that teachers have a higher responsibility.

A senior counsel named Bojja Tarakam said the bench how the petitioner’s request was illegal because it took away rights of teachers. However, the bench reacted saying that putting students into trouble was more serious than stripping the teachers of their basic rights to strike. To the bench’s direction to pull of the rights , the cousel said that they opted for the lst resort only when all the other ways were not offering any solutions.

The various teacher’s associations are agitated at the lack of consideration from the government. Nothing has been done for four years for the teachers, says one. Another teacher is totally irritated at the fact that a teacher has to wait for twenty years for confirmation of his or her job.

The school education dept. Counsel, Pathi Srinivasulu informed the bench of the 6 vital demands, 3 were opposed in courts, 1 was already dismissed in February, 2007, the remaining are still under consideration of the Indian government.
