Sadar Festival – Cultural Carnival of Hyderabad

Sadar Festival is a tremendous cultural event of the twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad as a part of post-Diwali celebrations. Sadar Festival is a traditional buffalo carnival which is celebrated by Yadav communities all around the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Tradition of Sadar Carnival :
According to some sources, this buffalo carnival, Sadar festival is an old traditional event celebrated first time in 16th Century. In the times of Nizam’s rule in the area of Hyderabad, Sadar had a greater importance.

Sadar Buffalo Festival is celebrated on 29th October, Wednesday.
Legend Behind Sadar Festival :
The two days after Diwali are celebrated as ‘Yama Dwitiya’ (Bhai Dhooj). Yama Dwitiya is very much associated with Lord Yama, whose vehicle is buffalo. To celebrate the festival in a traditional way, Yadav community takes up a procession in streets with buffaloes.
How the Buffalo Carnival is Celebrated ?
Buffaloes are decorated beautifully with garlands, paints and designs. Owners of buffaloes treat the buffaloes as the Gods on this day. Buffaloes are forced to stand on their hind legs, which is an indication of exhibitionism.
In an excited mood, some trained buffaloes perform mesmerizing stunts like jumping and leaping. Buffloes dance in a rhythm according to the traditional folk music – Teen maar. All the buffaloes are shown to the head of the community and the best male buffalo will get a prize.
Sadar Festival – A Regional Event of Hyderabad :
As a prominent community in Hyderabad, Yadavs celebrate the occasion with great fervour. They decorate their buffaloes with a great dedication to win the prize. To enjoy the eye-catching event, people come from all over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Maharashtra.
