Withdrawal Of Recognition For Gujarat Colleges

The destiny of about 350 professors of B Ed colleges in Gujarat is hanging on a thin cord. The NCTE (National Council of Teacher Education) is responsible for this condition as it are planning to take up some radical measures at the 109th meeting which was held on the 19th and 20th of October.

The NCTE is resolute to take back the recognition of thirty B.Ed colleges in Gujarat from the coming academic year of April 2009, which in effect means that one hundred and fifty lecturers who are presently associated with these colleges will lose their jobs.

Worse news is NCTE is going to have another meeting where they are going to withdraw recognition from forty more colleges. This in turn means the 200 support staff losing their jobs.
The rationale behind these drastic steps is the inability of replying to the show-cause notice. This show-cause notice was sent to about 129 colleges.

Five colleges of Ahmedabad district who were affiliated to Gujarat University and eight B. Ed colleges in Rajkot have been stripped off their recognition.

The Reasons Behind The Withdrawing Of Recognition

The withdrawal was necessary as these colleges were corrupted and were not running as per NCTE norms. Some of the reasons are cited below:

  • Non-submission of the credentials of the teaching staff
  • Not having a competent Principal
  • Not having the lease and land deeds in the trust’s name
  • Not having a building plan for non-educational purpose
  • Not having class rooms as per NCTE norms

4 B. Ed colleges each in Junagadh and Mehsana districts have lost the NCTE recognition. Other colleges losing it are in Surat, Vadodara, Patan, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Porbandar, Kheda and Anand districts.
