Compulsory Sex Education Adopted By England

The move of introducing sex education has been done to check the increasing rates of teenage pregnancy. The rates are highest in the United Kingdom among all of the European countries. The new laws which were announced overnight makes it compulsory for all schools to have sex education classes.

The instructions are at present obligatory for all students from the age of eleven. However, from the year, 2010 kids aged 5 years will be trained on various basics of relationships and anatomy.

At certain primary schools grade two students are taught reading, writing, mathematics and reproduction. Many primary and secondary schools are happily welcoming the move of making drugs and sex education compulsory for all students.

Experts are of opinion that children should be acquainted with the proper names of all parts of body so that they are comfortable enough not to be scandalized at the name of it. Parents are often not very comfortable with giving proper education to children leading to unwanted situations. This design would help the students take care of themselves better.

The school environment would give a non –threatening environment to the students who would be free to ask all queries and would be helped out with correct information and facts. A feature of the education is the question-box where the students can put their queries anonymously.

Mixed Responses

Though the move has been accepted as a good one by all; the year 2010 clause is causing a problem. The introduction of sex education as early as age 5 from 2010 is not going down well with many. Most think that age 5 is too early for all these.

The new law would not be enforced on faith schools where these would be simply at loggerheads with spiritual beliefs.

The controversial initiative, however, aims at erasing the incidence of teenage pregnancies which accounts for 4% of the total number of pregnancies.
