Saraswati Puja - During Durga Navratri

As you know, during Navratri festival nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped. Each day one of the manifestations of Goddess is worshipped. The nine days of Navaratri are dedicated to the three supreme Goddesses, Amba (Durga), Lakshmi and Saraswati.

During the first three days, Goddess Amba ( Warrior Goddess) is worshipped. In next three days Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, is worshipped and the last three days are dedicated to Goddess Maa Saraswati, the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge.

When is Saraswati Puja In 2008?
Saraswati Puja is performed during the last three days of Durga Navratri. Saraswati Pooja, also known as ‘Saraswati TriRatra vratam’ begins on the seventh day (Maha Sapthami) of Navratri and ends on the last day (Maha Navami). In 2008, Saraswati Pooja begins on 6th October, Monday and ends on 8th October, Wednesday.

On this day, ‘Vidyarambham’ is done for children. Vidyarambham is a ceremony of initiation children into the universe of letters.

Significance of Saraswati Puja (Saraswati TriRatra Vratam) :
Goddess Saraswati is known for her generous attitude of presenting boons to her devotees. Devotees believe that Goddess Saraswati presents them wisdom and knowledge if they please her with their devotion. To please her, devotees worship her during the auspicious days of Navratri. All the people, who are involved with education and arts worship the Goddess for their better careers.

Appearance of Goddess Saraswati – During Navratri :
The favorite colour of Goddess Saraswati is white. Hence, the idol of Saraswati is dressed in white colored saree. Yellow is also preferable. She is mounted on a pure white swan.

    Hello,

    All the articles on Durga were very informative. However, you should note that in Bengal, Saraswati puja is done in February. (I think it is on Magha-Shuddha-Panchami.)
