Special Sweet Recipes For Ganesh Chaturthi

Do you know that Lord Ganesh is very fond of food? You may know that, but what types of foods he likes most? Traditionally, during Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees of the Lord Ganesh prepare several recipes that are very special to offer to the Lord on the day of the festival. Some different food items are prepared in different parts of India.
Special Recipes for Ganesh Chaturthi – 2008:
Modak:
Ingredients:
- Rice Flour : 3 cups
- Water : 6 cups
- Oil : 4 teaspoons
- Coconut (grated) : 4 cups
- Sugar : 2 ½ cups
- Dry fruits : ½ cup
- Milk : ¾ cup
Method:
Rice Dough Preparation:
- Boil the water and oil and remove from the flame
- Add the rice flour, cover and let it cool
- Knead the mixture well and keep it aside
Stuffing:
- Mix all the ingredients except milk
- Keep the mixture over a medium flame and stir all the time
- Now, add the milk, stirring well and remove off the heat once it is dry
How To Proceed:
- Make rice dough balls
- Make a small hollow in the center and fill it with the stuffing
- Join the opening edges and make it in a shape of a garlic
- Steam these modaks for 10 – 15 minutes, take them off, cool and keep them in air-tight containers
Motichoor Ladoo:
Ingredients:
- Gram flour : 2 ½ cups
- Milk : 500 ml
- Powdered cardamom : ½ teaspoon
- Ghee : 3 cups
- A strainer spoon (fine holed)
For Sugar Syrup:
- Sugar : 3 cups
- Water : 4 cups
- Milk : 3 tablespoons
- Ghee : 3 cups
Method:
Syrup preparation:
- Mix sugar and water and boil in a vessel
- Add milk after sugar dissolves
- Boil for 5 – 7 minutes till scum forms on top
- Strain and return to flame
- Add color and boil vigorously till sticky
- Add powdered cardamom to the mixture and keep aside
Boondi preparation:
- Mix flour and milk to a smooth and soft batter
- Mix all the ingredients of stuffing except milk
- Heat ghee in a frying pan
- Hold the strainer on top of the frying pan with one hand
- With the other hand pour some batter all over the holes of the strainer
- Tap smoothly till all the batter has fallen into boiling ghee
- Stir with another strainer and remove from the pan when light golden
- Keep aside and repeat it for remaining batter
How To Proceed:
- Pour boondi in sugar syrup
- Drain the excess syrup
- Spread it in a large plate and sprinkle few teaspoons of hot water over it
- Cover and keep it for few minutes
- Take small parts of the mixture, shape them in ladoo with moist palms
- Cool and allow them to dry and store them in containers
