The chances of people suffering from severe apnea dying is several times more higher as compared to those not affected by the disorder according to researchers in the recent edition of Sleep journal.
The findings of the study confirm the observations of smaller studies- that there was higher risk of death for those affected by apnea, which is also referred to sleep-disordered breathing. Michael J Twery, director of National Centre on Sleep Disorders Research says that this was not a condition that kills you very acutely, but damages health over a period of time. Deprivation of sleep over a period of time can be damaging to health.
Sleep as we know is essential for good health. In our present day lifestyles, when a person is over-stressed due to work and personal pressures, sleep helps him to recuperate from the earlier day’s tiredness. One feels refreshed after good day’s sleep. From the health point of view also, adequate rest and sleep is essential. If one is deprived of sleep, their body systems can get affected. As they say, sleep well and feel good.
