“Elephant Village” in Jaipur City

All animal lovers have some exciting news – Rajasthan state authorities are dedicating a whole new village just for elephants. This village only meant for elephants is going to materialize soon says the Jaipur Development Authority.

About 30 hectares of land lying on the Delhi bypass are going in to make this dream come true. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has handed over the possession of this land to Rajasthan Tourism for the very same.

As many 100 elephants are will find shelter and food in this village as against being compelled to ferry tourists and baggage to load-unload ships, etc.

Facilities Provided for Elephants
Functioning much like a wildlife sanctuary where various ecosystems thrive with much focus on protection. Some basic facilities that are going to be provided for elephants in this village are:

  • Plants
  • Veterinary hospital
  • Proper sewerage
  • Pond for elephants to relax, bathe and enjoy in
  • Mahouts or elephant keepers will be provided accommodation within the premises
  • Restaurants
  • Artifacts manufacturing center
  • Museum

The museum can be a major delight for tourists because it is going to hold remnants of Rajasthan’s ancient past and the traditions coming down time. Authorities opine that though elephant owners maybe earning as much as 3000 rupees daily for ferrying tourists on elephants, the animal feed nearly totals to about 700 rupees each day. The existing plantation will not be used as elephant feed as it is done right now. However, it can be purchased later by elephant owners to provide fodder for their elephants.
