On Monday a new search engine was launched and it claims to be the biggest Web Search Engine. Cuil.com (pronounced as “Cool”) was launched by none another than former employee of Google Inc. Former leader of Google’s Search Index, Anna Patterson along with her husband, Tom Costello unveiled Cuil.com.

Cuil.com, Menlo Park, California, aims to topple the Web search giant, Google by indexing more number of Web pages. The search engine was developed after an extensive research by Anna Patterson, President and Tom Costello, CEO of the company at Stanford University and IBM.
The 3rd co-founder of Cuil.com, Russell Power is also a former Google employee and worked on Google Web Ranking, Web Indexing and spam detection. Russell Power is the Vice-President of Engineering at Cuil.com. The company till now claims to index around 120 billion Web pages. It also claims to give well organized results by understanding the concept of the query and maintaining its user’s privacy.
By analyzing the idea behind each query and analyzing the context of Web pages Cuil.com claims to move a step beyond the traditional search engine approach. On this basis it promises to give users better Web page ranking on the grounds of content rather than its popularity. Similar results are then grouped and sorted by categories. Cuil also offers tabs for the clarity of the subject and also for suggestions on how to refine search results.
On Friday, Google announced that it has discovered 1 trillion unique Web pages on the internet but did not provide the exact number of Web pages it has indexed. This year Cuil.com is not the only Google competitor to be launched. Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia launched its search engine Wikia Search this January. By allowing a community of users to index the Web pages Wikia Search promises to provide better search results.
