Three More India Tourism Offices Abroad

India tourism offices are to be set up in Brazil in South America, Moscow and Seoul. The union tourism ministry plans to open these offices in order to promote tourism and publicize its activities. Although, the finance ministry has restricted its financial operations, yet the tourism ministry is lobbying for its own offices. Outsourcing offices elsewhere do not serve the purpose, according to ministry officials.
Tourism office located overseas help in promotional activities in markets that are revenue generating. South Americans are keen on India. The number of tourists from Argentina has increased in 2006 from 3,313 in 2005 to 4,493. In the case of Brazil, the number of tourists coming to India has gone up from 7,005 to 9,148 in the same period.
The civil aviation ministry has been approached for direct flights to South America. The office to be opened in South Korea will take advantage of the keen interest shown in India over there.
As of now there are 13 India tourism offices abroad. These are located in New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Milan, Dubai, London, Johannesburg, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore.
