Drinking coffee on a long-term basis does not increase the risk of early death. In fact, it cuts down the chances of the person dying of heart diseases. This was revealed in a study led by Esther Lopez-Garcia of Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in Spain.

The researchers observed 84,214 US women during the time period 1980 to 2004. At the same time 41,736 US men were observed from 1986 to 2004. They observed that regular drinking of coffee, nearly up to six cups a day was not linked to increased deaths among the middle-age participants who were under study. On the other hand there was a small decline in death rates due to heart disease among the women. The study also did not find any link between consumption of coffee and cancer deaths.

Much debate has been taking place among scientists about effects of coffee drinking on health. Coffee contains caffeine, which is a stimulant and several other compounds.
