“Go Green” slogan has become popular among electronic and technical product making companies. Everyone knows the importance of eco-friendly electronic products. According to the latest Greenpeace’s Guide which ranks different companies in terms of greener electronics dropped Nokia from 1st rank to 9th rank. To regain its 1st rank again, Nokia developed its 1st eco-friendly phone named Nokia 3110 Evolve.
Nokia- the Finnish mobile phone company plans to manufacture phones that are made of bio-degradable material. In the year 2008 company announced to launch 40 new eco-friendly phones in India. The main aim behind Nokia going eco-friendly is to reduce the amount of harmful component which degrade the environment.

Nokia is also planning to manufacture recyclable battery and bio-degradable phone covers. The company is already working towards the promotion of its recyclable mobile phone in USA. The materials used for the production of green mobiles include Polylactic Acid (PLA) Plastic with plant or biomass-based modifiers. These biomass-based modifiers help in avoiding the use of non-renewable materials.
Besides this to seal off the battery case Nokia used bio-degradable materials based elastomers. The company is also working to reduce the energy consumption during mobile charging. D. Shivakumar, VP and Managing Director, Nokia India as stated to Business Standard: “We will be using biodegradable phone covers, recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories for all our forthcoming phones. Already, we have eliminated the use of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) in all our phones.”
Like in USA, Nokia is planning to use green bin methods in India via its Priority Dealers. Nokia customers can drop their used and old phones in the green bins and it will be recycled. This is the best way to be a part of eco-friendly drive.
