Nokia’s Free Download Music May Hurt CD Sales

Though Apple’s iPhone made a breathtaking entry into the market, it has remained unaffordable to the gizmo lovers because of its cost. The digital world is always full of surprises. Now that Nokia plans to enter the market as Comes with Music, its strategic entry can make look Apple’s iTunes outdated.

So the digital world seems to be under pressure of creating something different, something new and nothing seems to be permanent there except your own habits. The habit of listening to songs has remained and with increasing working hours you are likely to multitask, listening to music while driving, cooking or even working.

Shakespeare said that people who do not love music could also commit murder. Now that violence is increasing day by day, let all people fall in love with music and commit no murder. Music lovers and especially the youth are known to download free music and find any means to listen to music and Nokia is going to tap this section of consumers now.

The speculations about the free download music by Nokia are that it is going to hurt the sales of CD and reduce Nokia’s profit as well. I don’t think Nokia is going to bequeath some of its profits to attract more consumers. What Nokia is doing is that it is attracting more consumers through this strategy. Just as in an election/vote numbers matter so it does in the market. Nokia is going to net more youths in its consumer base.

Yes this strategy may lead to falling CD sales. However, CDs also took over cassettes. So, older technologies will have to make way for newer ones no matter how much love and affection we have for those objects. We resort to technology to make life easier and smoother and newer technologies will be introduced with more complex business models, which are left to the surmise of the consumers, critics and onlookers of the gizmo world.
