Thrissur Pooram Adds Glory To kerala

One very important festivals celebrated in the month of April-May known as Medam in the state of Kerala is the festival of Thrissur Pooram . It is a festival introduced by erstwhile maharaja Sakthan Thampuran.
There is lot of preperation done for this festival.People start searching the best of elephants in the beginning of April for this festival. On the auspicious day of the festival, people decorate their elephants beautifully and send them to Thrissur.
The beauty of this festival is that there are around 101 beautifully decorated elephants assembled near the vadakumanatha temple glorifying the deity. People from all over come to watch this celebration. The elephants in all their magnificence look stunning and it is a glorious sight. With so many beautiful elephants walking on the streets of Thrissur, it’s a phenomenon that one cannot afford to miss.
To add on to the glory,music from the Panchavadyam, a composition of 4 percussion instruments Timila, Maddalam , Edakka, Elathalam and a wind instrument Kompu is played during the procession.This music is said to be heavenly. This continues throughout the day and finally the celebration ends with a display of colorful display of fireworks, adding more glory to the day.
