How Prepared Are You to Visit India?

The basic criteria’s for entering India is to have a valid passport and visa approved and issued by the Indian embassy located in the countries of the respective foreign national. Apart from the basic requirement, it is essential for a foreign tourist to re-think over his or her preparedness to visit in India. This calls for a check-list of things a foreign national would need in a foreign country which may not be able to meet his or her needs satisfactorily.

What Should Your Check-List Contain?
Your check-list should contain the following:

  • Visa, passport and photocopies of both
  • Passport sized photographs
  • Receipt of a prior hotel booking
  • Have a transport arranged by the hotel you’re checking into if you haven’t got the contact number of an locally residing Indian
  • A voltage converter if you are planning to use electric gadgets in your visit to India
  • An electric plug adapter
  • Carry your medicines that will last the entire trip
  • Take a medicine kit to comfort your stomach against any food that may not suit you in India
  • Avoid drinking tap water in India
  • Soft drinks are preferably safer
  • Drink only bottled water and ensure that you find it in the right place
  • Check the seals and labels of the bottles before purchasing them
  • Carry appropriate clothing as summer (April-June), winter (Nov-Mar) and monsoon (July-Oct)seasons dominate the Indian sub-continent
  • Sufficient dollars which can be converted into Indian currency, that is, rupees ($2500 is the upper limit). However, if you are carrying more than $10000, the same should be declared on entry in the Currency Declaration Form.

These are the basic essentials you should be prepared with before and after entering India. It is suggested that a travel kit is essential and specific to the needs of an individual and in this case, for a foreigner, it is an absolute must to avoid nuisance in a foreign land.
