When is Hanuman Jayanti 2008? - Hanuman Jayanti this year falls on 20th April i.e on Sunday.

Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Hanuman-the ardent devotee of Lord Rama. This festival is celebrated throughout India and is an important festival of Hindus. Hanuman is worshipped for his divine devotion and dedication towards Lord Rama.

Significance of Hanuman Jayanti
Hanuman Jayanti falls on the full Chaitra Shukla Purnima i.e. the March-April full moon day. For 2008 it falls on 20th April, Sunday. People fast On this day, visit Hanuman temples early morning, apply vermilion on their foreheads from the Hanuman idol’s body as this is considered to bring good luck, spend the whole day in Ram-Nam Japa. Spiritual discourses in the Hanuman temples are started early at dawn and continue throughout the day.

The festival is celebrated in Hanuman temples, Lord Rama’s temples and houses with lots of preparation and devotion. It is believed that one can please Sri Hanuman by doing his pooja and can get his blessings.

Images of Hanuman are usually made of red stone and painted with vermilion. Hanuman is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He was born to the Wind God and Anjani Devi. Bajrangabali, Pavankumar, Pavanasuta and Mahavira are his other names.

Hanuman is known for his devotion, courage, valour, humbleness, virtues and knowledge. He is an embodiment of divine love. He served Lord Rama with pure love and lived to serve Sri Rama. He remained as a Brahmachari throughout his life and aided Rama in his expedition against evil forces. All these virtues of Hanuman contribute to the significance of his jayanti celebrations and teach us to follow and apply these divine virtues in our life.
