27% reservation for the OBC comes true

After a long battle a reservation of 27% for the OBC has been approved by the Supreme Court. This had evoked a mixed response among the diverse population in India. There are celebrations and protests as it always happens with any government policies. But finally 27% of the reservation is going to happen. Interestingly it will happen with some twists.
If you are a graduate you are not eligible for the OBC quota because it is stated that a graduate degree marks a student as forward so one cannot seek reservation as a backward anymore. Thus the elite institutions like IITs are within your reach though IIMs seem to be beyond your reach. Anyways for the latter, clarifications are sought as it is mentioned that there would be no reservations for post graduation courses.
Now many have expressed concern over the dilution of quality of IITs with OBC reservation being mandatory for them. If including larger sections of society means dilution I am afraid we need to re-look at our value system. It shows that you want to exclude people from general welfare for your own benefits.
From an optimist’s point of view I would say that quality education is made reachable to sections of society for whom it has been so long a dream. Imagine if quality education is made available to one and all we can dare to dream to become world leader otherwise a nation which cannot ensure quality to its own population should not dream of becoming world leaders in any field.
Few OBC communities might have availed considerable opportunities but there are many communities which badly need the reservation to enjoy the fruits of democracy. Reservation or laws in other words ensure a certain amount of distribution of opportunities and welfare which otherwise would not happen given the selfish interests of the privileged population.
Let’s wait and watch how all this goes about.
